Globally, there are still more than 13 million children who never receive any vaccination. these un-vaccinated children, and millions more under-vaccinated children, are found in all countries but the large majority of them live in a small number of countries which are affected by conflict, poverty and fragility. — World Health Organisation, 2020
Over at The Nest, we take vaccination very seriously, and realise how lucky we are to live in a place where we have vaccines offered for free, and we have the chance to give our children the best healthcare and protection.
Unfortunately not everyone see’s it like this…
Prevention is always better than cure, which is where vaccination (immunisation) comes in…
WHAT’S A VACCINE?
Its a substance that helps to protect against certain diseases.
Vaccines contain dead or weakened virus (microbe). This helps the immune system recognise and destroy the active microbe during an active future infection
HERE IS SOME FAST FACTS ABOUT VACCINATION
-
Immunisation doesnt just protect your child, it also protects the community around them by reducing the spread of preventable disease.
-
2-3 million deaths are prevented PER YEAR by vaccination.
-
Immunisation is the worlds most successful cost effective health intervention.
-
The cost of one child in ICU (suffering from a vaccine preventable disease) for a day can be $10,000+
NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THE COVID-19 VACCINE
A lot of the ingredients in the new vaccine have been used in vaccines that we have had before, so this will not be a 100% new product. The concern should lie about how effecive it is, not the side effects.
-
Studies are showing very positive results so far. 90% effecive in some.
-
Pfizer has stared trialing the vaccine in children from 12-16 years old which is great news.
-
The vaccine cant be authorised in children unless it has been trialed in children.
